It’s a New School Year…Get Violent
In 2015 I made one heck of a mistake. I wrote the book I wish I’d read my senior year in high school and then go distracted with the normal events of everyday life. I won’t bore you with the details because you know them, you’ve lived it if your eyes have ever glazed over when you know you should be paying attention, if you’ve ever procrastinated when you knew had better things to do, if you watched the clock instead of making the most of your time.
But for me, all then ended as soon as the clock ticked 12:00 am on January 1st of the year. The new and updated book was finished before the new school year and with it, one piece of sound advice–Get Violent.
We’re not violent enough in these soft an easy times. We’ve got a drive-through for everything, internet friends we never see, GPS instead of the willingness to get lost and build a good sense of direction.
And then we’ve got college–the marshmallow of all marshmallows on easy success. Everyone says, graduate college and success is all but guaranteed, yeah that’s a lie.
So I’ve got one thing to say—Get Violent. We’ve been fooled into thinking that this modern era was supposed to be easier than it was for our grandparents–it’s life, it’s never going to be without challenges. So instead of following some cookie cutter advice–get violent. Think creatively, look for opportunities off the beaten path. Don’t sit and be passive and wait for good things to come your way. Your professors and your degree won’t have the answer for your good life but you can find it if you decide that you’ve got the same thing those that came before you have–guts.
