2017 and the Battle for your Year

new year

2016 is only 12 days old and guess what, 2017 will be here before we know it. Time–it’s the only true finite resource. And whether it’s the end of the day or the end of the hour, when it comes calling there are only three possibilities: you’ve won, remained the same, or lost.

I spent my New Year’s in the way that’s become my tradition–bought a sparkling new dress, went to service, shouted well wishes and the end of the countdown, and felt the rush of excitement from the crowd, hundreds of inner promises of a year yet to blossom.

But suddenly I realized I’d lost the battle. Heck, if I’m being honest I lost the battle this entire weekend. We’re just over a week into the year and for more than a day or so I’ve failed to remind myself of what New Year’s eve taught me–I want to be better.

We’re humans–if we’re not growing we’re stunted. I stalled for two whole days and I make this promise to myself and to you readers. It’s 7:42 pm and this day will not be in vain. Because on December 31, 2016 at 11:59 pm I plan to say a big thank you for realizing I lost a two day battle but won the war of 2016. What war will you fight? Weight loss, career, marriage. It’s no secret that most people fail at completing New Year’s Resolutions. But it doesn’t have to be this way for anyone who really wants to succeed. Pick your battles and fight to win each day.
